Spots Open for Police Academy

Sgt. Travis Koltiska says the Sheridan Police Department is now taking applications for the 2014 Citizen’s Police Academy.

In a news release, he says this will be the 4th consecutive year the department has conducted the academy and this year’s presentations will begin on February 25. From that starting point, classes will be held on Tuesday nights, from 6-9.

Students attending the academy will be given classes and information on the department and the services it provides to the community.

Classes will be taught by various members of the department on topics like domestic violence, custody and control, the use and handling of firearms, traffic stops, and accident investigation, as well as receive information on the divisions within the department.

The police sergeant describes the classes as interactive and hands on, and designed to provide students with information on just how the department works.

The academy is open to anyone. Applications can be found on line at the department's website and must be filled out and turned in no later than February 15. The link is
