Stopka, Obermueller Working On Enplanements

Sheridan County Airport Manager John Stopka said this week he isn't quite sure how the goal of 10,000 commercial enplanements will be met by the end of this year.

But that's the goal of Stopka, the Critical Air Service Team, county officials and Denver Air Connection. Stopka said he and County Administrative Director Renee Obermueller will meet with Sheridan County commissioners next week.

Stopka also said that a recent sale on air fares ended last week, and he's waiting to see if the sale boosted passenger numbers. He said money from the Federal Aviation Administration, also known as the FAA, is the reason for the 10,000 number.

If there are at least 10,000 enplanements by the end of the year, Sheridan County Airport will qualify for $1 million from the FAA for capital improvements. If enplanements fall short of that number, the airport will receive only $150,000.
