Trees for Trash Brings 500-plus People to Landfill

More than 560 people hauled nearly 200 tons of trash to Sheridan's municipal landfill this weekend, exchanging the trash for Amur maple trees.

Darla Franklin, who's the city's solid waste and recycling coordinator, said the final count included more than 320 city residents, and more than 230 from elsewhere in the county.

The event was from 9 until 2 Saturday, and the city accepted trash for free both during and after the Trees for Trash exchange. Six hundred and 50 trees were donated to the event by Landon's Greenhouse and Nursery.
