An astronomer with the University of Wyoming has been selected to be part of a team that is planning for a science exploration project with the Thirty Meter Telescope. Mike Pierce says that it's a cooperative international project that will become the most advanced and powerful optical telescope on Earth.

The professor added that the one billion dollar project would most likely take up to ten years to complete at a volcano site in Hawaii. He stated that The Thirty Meter Telescope project is a collaboration among United States universities led by Cal Tech and the University of California system along with institutions in Canada, China, India and Japan. Major funding for the project comes from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
