Nearly a dozen people showed up at the Wyoming Welcome Center’s weekly program called Wyoming Wednesday. This week’s topic was Fort Phil Kearney and Sheridan Media’s Judy Hagerott was there and brings us this story.

Every Wednesday, now through the end of July, people will be treated to programs that feature Wyoming. Nancy Herdt from the Wyoming Welcome Center explained.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the building of Fort Phil Kearney, located 21 miles south of Sheridan and this week’s presenter was Misty Stoll, Superintendent of the fort. She said the fort seemed destined for failure.

Life at the Fort was a constant battle.

Superstition or coincidence, the fort seemed destined for failure from the very beginning.

At one time the largest stockaded fort in the West, the fort is sometimes call Fort Doom.
