Wyoming's senior senator has chosen his nominees for federal academies.

News Director Leslie Stratmoen has the report.

Wyoming's senior U.S. Senator has announced nominations for service academies, and none are from the local area. U.S. Republican Senator Mike Enzi nominated 12 students from Wyoming as his choices for the U.S. Air Force, Merchant Marine, Military and Naval academies.

In a statement released by his office, he says: “Wyoming students continue to demonstrate their patriotism every year by applying to our service academies.

He went on to say: “Their willingness to serve benefits the entire nation … and the service academies provide a great opportunity to young people, including a quality education.”
Nominees are selected with the help of a selection committee that's put together by the senator.

Receiving a nomination is the first step in the process of seeking an appointment to an academy. Once the nomination process is complete, each academy will make a final selection. Nominees may also be considered for admission under other categories.

This year's nominees are coming from seven different towns in Wyoming. They are Basin, Casper, Dubois, Laramie, Mills, Meriden and Cheyenne.
