Funeral services for George Carpenter, 54 year old Buffalo resident who passed away quietly Sunday morning at his home in Buffalo, surrounded by family, will be held Friday October 14th at 10:00 a.m. at the Harness Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo, with Reverend Tom Saur officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home chapel on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A private family interment will follow the services. Donations in George’s memory may be made to the Bread of Life Food Pantry in care of the Harness Funeral Home at 351 N. Adams in Buffalo. Online condolences may be made at
George Thomas Carpenter was born on July 18, 1962 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Thomas and Diana Carpenter. He grew up and went to school in Minnesota and Wisconsin and graduated from Wayland Academy in Wayzata, Minnesota. He then attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona where he studied Aeronautical Engineering. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard as a third generation member and served in Alaska, Hawaii and San Diego for a total of four years. He was married in California to Dierdre Bernardin and they were divorced in 1989. He was married on May 26, 1990 in Marcola, Oregon to Joan Goodner and they made their home in Eugene, Oregon until 1999. They then moved to Buffalo, Wyoming where they lived for one year before moving to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. George and Joan were divorced in 2002 and George moved back to Buffalo. George divided his time living in Puerto Vallarta and Buffalo until the time of his death. George’s passion was flying and sailing. He was a member of the Vallarta Yacht Club.
He is survived by one son, Jack Carpenter of Sheridan; one daughter Joey Carpenter of Bellevue, Washington; his adopted mother Nicky Carpenter of Wayzata, Minnesota; one sister Virginia Carpenter of Plymouth, Minnesota; one adopted brother Mathew Carpenter of the U.K.; two nephews and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his father Tom Carpenter, one brother James and one infant sister.
