State baseball continues today at Thorne-Rider Stadium

AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL STATE TOURNAMENT - The 1st round of the state American legion baseball tournament is history the Sheridan Troopers got beat by Laramie 9-8 last night. The Troops rallied to take an 8-7 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning but Laramie had the last at bat and scored twice to advance.

The Troopers will play Rock Springs in a loser-out game this afternoon at 12:30.

The first game of the tournament went ten innings with Powell beating Torrington 8-7, Gillette beat Rock Springs 17-3 and Cheyenne beat Casper 9-4.

These are the 2nd round match-ups: in the first elimination game this morning Torrington will play Casper at 9:30. The Troopers play Rock Springs at 12:30. The first winners game will be this afternoon, Powell takes on Cheyenne at 4:00. Gillette plays Laramie in the late game at 7:30.

Sheridan high school teacher and coach Mark Eliott is the state tournament director and talks about how he became involved in helping run this year's state tournament. He says day one was a great day for baseball. And Eliott invites everyone to come out for some of the tournament over the next three days.

TR FOOTBALL CAMP - Next week Tongue River high school football coach Chuck Walters will host the Screaming Eagles youth football camp. The camp will run next week Tuesday through Thursday. The camp is open to all kids entering the 1st grade through 8th grade. The camp will be held at Tongue River middle school in Ranchester from 6:00 – 7:30 each evening.

The cost of the camp is 20 dollars per camper they will begin taking registration at 5:30 Tuesday evening.

LITTLE GUY FOOTBALL - Next week registration opens for the Sheridan recreation district little guy football program they will take sign-ups at the rec office all next week.

5th and 6th grade tackle players must have a sports physical complete before they can participate. for more information call the rec district at 674-6421.

JD MULLNAX TENNIS TOURNAMENT - The rec district will host the annual JD Mullinax tennis tournament next weekend august 7th and 8th. they will have mens, womens and mixed doubles. Players can register at the rec district office in Thorne-rider park. Play begins at 8:00 next Saturday morning.

LADY BRONC VOLLEYBALL CAMP - The Sheridan Lady Bronc volleyball team will host a one day camp for girls in the 4th -6th grades at the “Y” august 11th. They are taking registration at the “Y” this week the cost is 40 dollars per camper.
