Coaching Comments:

The meet in Spearfish was very competitive and our athletes are getting a good look at the best teams in the state. There were 700 athletes at the meet and it showcased the best athletes from Wyoming and western South Dakota. We continue to see improvement in most of the events as we head into the middle of the indoor season.

We battled some injuries and it took a bit of a toll on some events but we hope to heal up and continue to improve as a team.

Shayla Christensen was a bright spot for the girls team and she made a very big improvement over the first meet in Gillette. The impressive thing is that she competed very well in order to win the event.

She is a great role model for the rest of the girls in terms of how to prepare and compete at her best in a meet. We will need that leadership as we continue to put the athletes in their respective events at the upcoming meets.

The boys team was led at the meet by Matt Scarlett and the hurdlers. Matt improved his 800 and 1600 times and places in Spearfish and he has established himself as a very good runner in the meets.

Our hurdle crew was impressive and it is rare to have three athletes place in such a big meet. We hope that they continue to compete at this level and that the other athletes emulate their efforts in the upcoming meets.

The team will travel to Chadron, NE next Saturday to compete in the Chadron State Winter Classic High School Indoor Track Meet.
