Troopers fall in state tournament opener / Cheyenne. Laramie, Gillette and Casper advance

AMERICAN LEGION STATE BASEBALL - The Sheridan Troopers dropped their opener in the American legion double "AA" state tournament last night at Thorne-Rider stadium losing to Casper 10-7.

The Troopers took a 7-4 lead after five innings but Casper came right back and put up six runs in the 6th inning to take the lead back and hold the Troops off late, here's Head coach Ben Phillips.

The Troopers face an elimination game with Rock Springs this afternoon at 1:00 after they lost 18-6 against Cheyenne, Phillips says it will be a tough game and the Troops just have to find a way today to extend their season.

We will broadcast the game live on 14-10 KWYO the first pitch is scheduled for 1:00.

In other action yesterday Laramie beat Jackson 14-10 and Gillette held off Cody 6-5.

The first game starts at 10:00 and has Jackson playing Cody the Troopers go at 1:00 at 4:00 Laramie plays Gillette and Cheyenne Post 6 will play cCasper tonight at 7:00

VOLLEYBALL - -The annual Weston Johnson memorial summer slam volleyball tournament will be played outdoors at the YMCA August 8th the they have divisions for all age groups, all funds raised go to the Weston Johnson foundation which helps local people and families battling cancer.

FALL SPORTS - The Sheridan Bronc football open two a days opening August 10th, the Big Horn Rams and Tongue River Eagles open on August 17th.

The start for volleyball, cross country, tennis and girls swimming all begin on the the 17th, fall golf has it's first tournament in Cheyenne August 20th and 21st.

all high school and junior high school athletes along with little guy football 5th and 6th graders must have sports physical completed before they can begin practice.
