MWC FOOTBALL - The Wyoming Cowboys beat Fresno State last Saturday in the New Mexico Bowl in double overtime. Last night, BYU made it two-straight Mountain West wins, knocking off Oregon State 44-20 in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Three more MWC teams will play bowl games: Utah takes on California in the “Poinsettia Bowl” tonight. The Air Force Academy plays Houston in the “Armed Forces Bowl” December 31st and TCU plays Boise State January 4th in the BCS “Fiesta Bowl”.

All these teams receive big money to play in these games, with the four BCS Bowls going for as much as $18 million per team.

The teams get to keep most of that money, with some shared with the rest of the conference teams. The exception is TCU; by rule, the Horned Frogs must also share a portion of their money with the four BCS conferences, leaving out a big chunk of cash that should go to the Mountain West Conference. That's a huge issue with MWC Commissioner Craig Thompson.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS - Next week high school practice resumes following Christmas weekend.

Sheridan High School swimming coach Larry White says the Broncs have worked hard to get into shape for the last three weeks, and they don't want to take too much time off so they will be ready to compete in a home meet January 7th.

The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers and the Bronc and Lady Bronc basketball teams will all get back into practice next week as well.

The basketball season resumes Thursday, January 7th with the Broncs and Lady Broncs playing six games in Riverton. They play the host team, and will also have games with Star Valley and Evanston. All six games will be broadcast on AM 1410 KWYO and 95.9 FM.

The Sheridan College players will return a week later, but must be ready to host games at the Hoffman Dome January 8th and 9th.

UW BASKETBALL - The Wyoming basketball Cowboys play tonight at Northern Iowa; you can hear the game tonight on AM 1410 KWYO and 95.9 FM -- broadcast time is 5:30.

The Pokes will open a four-game home stand starting December 30th against Akron University. They finish it up January 6th in their MWC opener with Colorado State.

NFL - The Denver Broncos are still in the race for the AFC Wild Card -- they play at Philadelphia Sunday afternoon, and you'll hear it live on AM 1410 KWYO. Broadcast time is 1:00, with kick-off at 2:15.

SHERIDAN WYO RODEO - The Sheridan WYO Rodeo board has announced they are adding a Wednesday night performance to the 80th WYO rodeo in July. This summer the WYO Rodeo will be among 22 other rodeos that will make up the “Million Dollar Tour” of the PRCA.

Joining the tour means more prize money in the eight events at the WYO, giving contestants an opportunity to make more money towards qualifying for the NFR. The Wednesday morning slack competition for timed events will still be held.
